TapelineCalc is a set of construction calculators built around one stubborn idea: a measurement should stay exact until the moment it is drawn on screen.
Exact arithmetic
Feet, inches and sixteenths are fractions, and fractions do not survive a trip through decimal floating point unharmed. Every value here is held as an exact ratio of whole numbers for the entire calculation. Rounding happens once, at the display, and when it happens the page says so — the note reads to nearest 1/16, exact kept, because the exact value is still what the next calculation uses.
Sourced constants
Bag yields come from manufacturer technical data sheets. Material densities come from published ranges, and where a widely repeated figure is not supported by any of them we say so on the page rather than quietly using it. Code limits cite the IRC section they come from, along with the states that amend it. A number with no source does not appear.
The app and the site agree
The phone app and this website install the same versioned arithmetic package, and both run its shipped test vectors in their own build pipelines. If the two ever disagreed about a number, a build would fail before anyone could ship it. The app isTapelineCalc on Google Play.
What this is not
These are estimates, not engineering. They are arithmetic on the numbers you enter, plus the published material data shown on each page. Verify quantities with your supplier and requirements with your local building department before you order, cut or pour.
Who makes this
TapelineCalc is built and maintained by Erkam Demirci, an independent software developer — one person, the same one who builds the phone app. Corrections to any number or source are welcome at[email protected]; a wrong constant is treated as a bug, not feedback.
Analytics
This site counts page views and which calculators get used, through Google Analytics, so we know which pages are worth improving. Measurement is on by default. There is no advertising on this website, no profile is built, and nothing is sold.
